Conscious Advertising Done Right… “The Talk”

It is not new for corporations to address social issues. After call, the better they do, the more relevant they are.  The more relevant, the money they will make.  But it is a rarity for corporations to tackle a sensitive topic, and do it with grace.

Below is an ad from Procter & Gamble (P&G) to promote their My Black Is Beautiful campaign. Instead of going for the awkward Black Lives Matter related attempt made by Pepsi and Kendall Jenner (See at bottom), P&G decided to address “The Talk.” The one-minute video tracks “the talk” throughout history, chronicling moments black mothers first needed to talk to their children about racism and bias. So far the response has been positive from all communities. Check it out:

The reason this ad is so effective, is because many, if not all, African Americans can relate to “the talk.” If you don’t get it, watch it twice. Not so sure it will make me buy more of their products, but it will hopefully trigger some good conversation.
