Sometimes there are reboots that simply rehash the old ideas. They make the same type of jokes with similar actors and familiar scripts. Rarely do they take a offer a genuinely new and timely perspective on the core concept of the show or movie.

Enter: The Fresh Prince Drama

Most people only remember Fresh Prince for the light hearted fun, but not only did the show tackle some serious topics, but its core premise is something that was glossed over:

“…I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
She said ‘You’re movin’ with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air'”

With the show now as a drama, the depth in these to bars opens the door to explore some complex issues. And while exploring these topics, my hope is that the victories and the fun that will inevitably occur in the show will carry more weight and meaning. Check out the trailer below.
